Art & science
For SPL, art and science are two ways of fighting with reality. Artistic work can live in imagination alone; scientific work must bring imagination into contact with nature, then test whether the world agrees. That loop of visualization, hypothesis, experiment, and revision is not separate from creativity. It is one of its most disciplined forms.

Unique vision
Science does not exist apart from scientists. Scientists are human: analytical, visual, emotional, playful, and creative. If the culture of science tells people to amputate the artistic side of themselves, it loses good scientists and weaker hypotheses are the result.
